Who are we?
Quite simply, Freemasonry is a fraternal organization whose fundamental goal is to make good men better. Through the work in the lodge and the interactions with the brethren, good men are naturally transformed into better men within society, their families, their social circles, etc. The bottom line: if you surround yourself with good people, you will naturally become better yourself.
We are NOT a cult. We are NOT a religious organization; although, we do require men to profess a belief in a supreme being (discussed more below). We are NOT a secret organization; rather, we are an organization with a few secrets...and if you think about it, every organization has some secrets.
Freemasonry has been around since the beginning of America! Many of our Founding Fathers were Masons themselves. It has been interwoven with the very fabric of America since the beginning.
We are a fraternity of men who are absolutely dedicated to each other and our families, our country, and our fellow man.
What do we do?
Through the work of the lodge, we strive to improve ourselves in practically every facet of our lives. Masonry sharpens our skills as leaders, at charity, at developing and maintaining our "moral compass", and in general at being good citizens. We strive to support each other, to support our families, and our fellow citizens. And honestly, we enjoy periodically getting together to enjoy good company and fellowship! We are a very tight-knit group, and you will find that, as a Mason, you are quite literally welcome in any lodge anywhere in the world with open arms!
What are the requirements to be a Mason?
You must be a man of at least 18 years of age, and you must profess a belief in a Supreme Being.
Why do we require a belief in a Supreme Being?
It is simple. We make promises to each other and to the fraternity writ large in the form of obligations. If a man doesn't believe in a Supreme Being, to whom does he feel ultimately accountable to keep a promise?? The answer is nobody. This is not an issue of religion; rather, it is an issue of accountability.
How do you become a Mason?
If you meet the above requirements, you need to fill out a petition and have it endorsed by two current Masons in good standing. These two Masons are vouching for your character. If you do NOT know any Masons, we encourage you to contact the lodge so that we can get to know you.
Will I be pressured into joining?
There is absolutely NO risk with reaching out to us, and there will be absolutely NO pressure!!! We do NOT recruit! If you are a man and are interested in joining us, you initiate it...not us.
What about women?
Freemasonry is a male fraternity. However, we are family-centric, and many of our events involve the entire family. Further, there are appendant bodies to Masonry, such as The Order of the Eastern Star, that are primarily comprised of women. And we sponsor girls in our Rainbow program and boys in DeMolay. All of these organizations have local chapters.
